West Milwaukee Widening Plan Approved

The plans to widen West Milwaukee Avenue in Storm Lake have been approved by the city council.
Infrastructure director Pat Kelly says the project will widen to three lanes West Milwaukee from Barton Street to Northwestern Drive. The project also includes the replacement of the traffic signal at Northwestern and improvements to that intersection.
The project is estimated to cost one-point-two million dollars. The city is receiving federal and state funds of 741-thousand dollars.
The project was scheduled for bid-letting by the DOT on February 17th… but city clerk Justin Yarosevich says delays in getting a signed agreement from the railroad concerning the Northwestern crossing will likely push the bid-letting to March 17th. Patrick says work on the project would start in May at the earliest… with the contractor having 60 days to complete the job.
