SL Hoops Teams Swept at Spencer: Boys Fall Just Short

It was nearly a double header split in Spencer for the Storm Lake Tornadoes.

The Storm Lake boys basketball team took it down to the wire, only to fall 47-45 to Spencer.  With 8.2 seconds left, after making the front-end of a one-and-one to put the Tigers up by two, Brady Illg missed the second free throw, leaving Storm Lake with a chance to win it, but Parker Lange’s right wing three rimmed out at the buzzer.  The Tornadoes led much of the 1st quarter, but trailed by as many as 11 during the 3rd quarter.  Lange led Storm Lake with 17 points, and Josh Werge had 12, and they each had a pair of threes.  Jake Kluender led the Tigers with 22.  Storm Lake drops to 3-12, and 3-8 in the Lakes Conference, and Spencer pushes their mark to 8-7, 7-4.

The Spencer girls scored the first 21 points of the game in their 46-19 win over Storm Lake.  Naomi Castillo led the Tornadoes with 7, and Briana Soto had 5.  Storm Lake is now 0-18, 0-11, while Spencer goes to 8-9, 4-7.
