On the afternoon of Sunday, February 1, 2015, at approximately 2:13pm, the Storm Lake Fire Department responded to Lakeside Presbyterian Church located at 100 East 3rd Street in reference to an automated fire alarm.
Upon arrival of fire fighters they entered the church and located a heater on the west side of the church smoking. There was no fire and no damage. Fire fighters cut power to the heater, ventilated smoke from the building and notified building maintenance to complete repairs.
The fire department was on scene for approximately 50 minutes and was assisted at the scene by the Storm Lake Police Department.
On the afternoon of Saturday, January 31, 2015, at approximately 3:59pm, the Storm Lake Fire Department responded to South School located at 310 Cayuga Street in reference to an automated fire alarm.
Upon arrival of fire fighters they determined that an alarm pull station had been activated by a small child. There was no fire and no damage. The fire department was on scene for approximately 15 minutes and was assisted at the scene by the Storm Lake Police Department.
On the evening of Friday, January 30, 2015, at approximately 11:00pm, the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to Mo’s Bar on Lake Avenue in reference to an intoxicated patron.
Upon arrival police met with staff who reported that a patron was allegedly refused service due to his state of intoxication. At that point the patron, later identified as Gerardo Perez-Rios, age 35 of Storm Lake, reportedly urinated on the floor in the establishment and then departed with some friends.
Police located Perez-Rios in the Lake Avenue Lounge and following an investigation identified him as the person who urinated in Mo’s Bar. Police charged Perez-Rios with Public Intoxication and Criminal Mischief 5th Degree (both simple misdemeanors). He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $600.00 bond.
A second person with Perez-Rios, identified as Marco Monsivais, age 22 of Storm Lake, was arrested by police and charged with Public Intoxication (simple misdemeanor). He was booked into the county jail on a $300.00 bond.
On the morning of Friday, January 30, 2015, at approximately 8:30am, the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to the Storm Lake Middle School in reference to a fight.
Upon arrival police met with school staff who reported that an 11 year old male and a 12 year old male, both of Storm Lake, engaged in a fight outside of the school Friday morning. Following an investigation police charged both juveniles with Disorderly Conduct (simple misdemeanor). They were processed and released to a parent pending a court date. The case has been forwarded to the Juvenile Court Authority.
