Police Blotter

Here is the latest from the police blotter.
On the afternoon of Thursday, January 29, 2015, at approximately 2:35pm, the Storm Lake Fire Department responded to North Lake Manor located at 1325 North Lake Avenue in reference to an automated fire alarm.
Upon arrival of fire fighters it was determined that a plumber had accidently cut a wire to the fire alarm system causing the alarm to activate.  There was no fire and no damage.  The fire department was on scene for approximately 15 minutes and was assisted at the scene by the Storm Lake Police Department.

On the morning of Thursday, January 29, 2015, at approximately 9:30am, the Storm Lake Police Department took a report at the Storm Lake Middle School in reference to a theft.Police were advised by school administrators that a 12 year old male, of Storm Lake had allegedly stolen a case of fruit snacks from a conference room at the school and the incident had been captured on surveillance video. Police viewed the video and following an investigation arrested the 12 year old male and charged him with Theft 5th Degree (simple misdemeanor).  He was processed and released to a parent pending a court date. The stolen property was retrieved from the juvenile’s locker. The case has been forwarded to the Juvenile Court Authority.

On the afternoon of Tuesday, January 27, 2015, at approximately 3:36pm, the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to 1304 Erie Street in reference to a trespass.Upon arrival of police they spoke with the reporting party and witnesses and were advised that a Kevin Villanueva-Cardenas, age 28 of Storm Lake, allegedly came to the residence around 9:00am Tuesday morning.  The reporting party told Cardenas to leave the residence multiple times and he refused.  Following multiple commands to leave Cardenas eventually departed. Police located Cardenas at 319 East 6th Street and took him into custody.  Following an investigation police charged Cardenas with Criminal Trespass (simple misdemeanor).  He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $300.00 bond.

On January 26, at approximately 4:50pm, in the 600th block of W. 5th Street in Storm Lake, a vehicle driven by Richard Drahota of Storm Lake was involved in an accident with another vehicle driven by Tessa Dewall of Storm Lake.  The two vehicles collided causing total damages estimated at $3,500.  Dewall was cited for Failure to Yield.
