A ten-year-old Storm Lake boy has been charged with stabbing his younger brother.
Police were dispatched to an apartment at 15-hundred North Seneca Monday evening… where a mother was attempting to find a ride to the hospital after her child had been stabbed. Officers determined a ten-year-old boy and his nine-year-old brother allegedly engaged in an argument at which time the 10 year old male armed himself with a kitchen knife and began to chase the younger brother around the apartment. At some point the 10 year old threw the knife at his brother stabbing him in the back.
Police allege the mother… 42-year-old Jennifer Means-Delcid… did not call for medical assistance for the nine-year-old victim and instead called family in Minnesota. Another family member came to the apartment and took the nine-year-old boy to the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center.
Police seized from the apartment the kitchen knife and a blood stained shirt. Other officers responded to the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center where they met with the 9 year old victim. The victim was treated at the medical center and later released to family members.
Police charged Means-Delcid with child endangerment, an aggravated misdemeanor… and jailed her on a two-thousand dollar bond. The ten-year-old was charged with aggravated assault with a weapon, an aggravated misdemeanor.
Reports have been forwarded to the Juvenile Court Authority and to the Iowa Department of Human Services.
