The tax asking for the Storm Lake school district will remain as it was initially published… but it could have been increased.
Superintendent Doctor Carl Turner told the school board Wednesday night the legislature made some changes regarding property taxes and area education agency budgets that could have allowed the district to increase the levy above the planned 16-31 per thousand dollar valuation. He said the district was able to keep the tax levy at the published rate by cutting 40-thousand dollars from the management fund.
Wednesday night the board approved increasing substitute teacher pay by four-and-a-half percent… the same increase given in the teachers’ contract. The pay will increase from 118-dollars a day to 123-dollars.
The board approved an agreement with Buena Vista Regional Medical Center to supply three nurses to the school district. Turner says the medical center has supplied nurses since 2002 and the district gets a quality nursing service through the arrangement.
