Unemployment rates went up slightly in area counties last month. Iowa Workforce Development says the jobless rate in Buena Vista County went from 4.1 percent in May to 4.9 percent in June.
Other area counties had similar increases. In Cherokee County, the rate went from 4.3 to 4.7 percent… in Ida County, from 3.4 to 3.7 percent… in Pocahontas County, from 3.9 to 4.2 percent… and in Sac County, from 3.6 to 4.1 percent.
Workforce Development spokesperson Kerry Koonce says the statewide rate went from 5.1 percent in May to 5.2 percent in June… the first increase in 10 months. She says there was some good news… professional and business services led the month's job growth with a gain of three-thousand jobs. Manufacturing posted a gain of 1,500 jobs in June… and over the past year has added nearly 12-thousand jobs. In June, there were 85,600 unemployed Iowans.
